Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a secure and simple way to get back into your account on your own. If you've forgotten your password, been locked out after too many incorrect tries, or can't seem to sign in, this guide will walk you through the process so you can regain access immediately, without waiting for help from Technology support.
Objectives
Following this guide ensures that you:
Regain account access quickly: A guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions, allowing you to get back into your account faster, which is crucial if you've forgotten your password or have been locked out.
Maintain security: The guide will walk you through the correct security protocols, such as verifying your identity through a secondary email, security questions, or a multifactor authentication code. This prevents unauthorized access to your account.
Reduce Technology Help Desk workload: By resolving password issues on your own, you free up IT support staff to handle more complex technical problems, leading to a more efficient and productive workplace.
Learn the process: The guide teaches you how the tool works, so you can perform future password resets with ease. This builds independence and reduces your reliance on support staff.
Important Note:
Before you can use SSPR to reset your password, you must have previously registered at least one authentication method (like an alternate email address or phone number) with your account. You can manage these settings at any time by logging into your Microsoft account and navigating to the security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
Password Reset Process
Step 1: Initiate the password reset:

Alternatively, you can start the password reset process from any Microsoft login page or site.
(The Corvallis School District's Microsoft Federated login page below shows an example of what to select.)
Step 2: Identify Yourself
-
The system will prompt you to verify your identity. Enter your full email address and picture characters, then click Next.
Step 3: Select Trouble
-
You should then be prompted to select a reason for the reset.
-
You will need to select and use one of the authentication methods you previously registered (e.g., a verification code sent to your alternate email address or phone number).
