How to use HDMI Switch w/ Projectors

Product: HDMI Switch

Audience: Spocs and Staff

Overview

HDMI Switches are used with projectors that lack multiple HDMI ports. They allow additional HDMI connections that otherwise would not be possible. HDMI Switches are typically restricted to be used with some Elementary Gym projectors and the Library Projector at CMS. (Current placement will be CMS Library and GA Gym, with more to come soon.)

What is an HDMI Switch and How to Use it

What is an HDMI Switch?

  • An HDMI switch is a mechanical device that will take in multiple signals and allow one signal to be chosen over another. It will have a remote, which should be attached to the projector remote to easily locate it.

How to use an HDMI Switch

  • Use the HDMI Switch Remote when you want to change source inputs to the projector.
    • “In 1”- Will connect to a physical HDMI outlet.
      • Use this when you want to plug an HDMI cable into a device
    • “In 2”- Will connect to an AirTame
      • Use this when you want to connect wirelessly using an AirTame.

    • “In 3”- Not in use. Nothing will be connected to this. Use “In 1” or “In 2”

Troubleshooting

Check Connectivity

  • Check to make sure the HDMI Switch is turned on. The HDMI Switch will display blue lights if it’s on.
  • Check that the connection source you’re trying to use is selected. If the HDMI Switch is visible, the blue light indicator will be under the selected “In” source.
  • Check that the Projector’s Source is set to HDMI.
  • The HDMI Switch can be left turned ON. I’d recommend leaving it on “In 2” (AirTame) for ease of connecting by most users since they will likely opt to connect wirelessly.

Conclusion

You should now know what an HDMI Switch is, how it works, and how to use it.
