Overview

A Gemini Gem is a custom version of the Gemini AI that you can create and train to perform specific tasks or provide expertise in particular areas. By providing tailored instructions and optional knowledge files, you can create an AI assistant that meets your unique needs.

Steps to Create a Gemini Gem

1. Open Gemini: Go to gemini.google.com in a web browser and log in with your Google account.
2. Access Gem Manager: In the bottom left corner, click on Gem manager. It may be represented by an icon that looks like a jewel.
3. Create a New Gem: Click on New Gem.
4. Name Your Gem: In the Name field, enter a descriptive title for your custom Gemini.
5. Write Instructions: In the Instructions field, provide clear and specific instructions for your Gem. Consider the following when writing instructions:
   • Persona: Define the role you want the Gem to play (e.g., friendly tutor, expert coder, creative writer).
   • Task: Clearly state what you want the Gem to do (e.g., summarize text, generate lesson plans, debug code).
   • Context: Provide any necessary background information or context the Gem should consider.
   • Format: Specify the desired format for the Gem's responses (e.g., bullet points, numbered lists, short paragraphs).
6. Add Knowledge Files (Optional): If you have specific documents or files that you want your Gem to reference, click Add files (it looks like a plus sign) and upload them. You can upload various file types, including text files, code files, documents, spreadsheets, and more.
7. Preview and Test: On the right side of the screen, in the Preview panel, you can interact with your Gem to test its responses and refine your instructions. Remember that using the preview window does not automatically save your Gem.
8. Save Your Gem: Once you are satisfied with the Gem's behavior, click Save.

Your new Gemini Gem will now be accessible in the side panel of the Gemini home page under "Gems". You can click on it to start a new chat with your custom AI assistant.
