Guide: Using New Epson Projectors

Overview

This is a guide on how to connect and use Epson 695/725 projectors that are installed in many classrooms at CSD. 

 

Tools/Equipment Needed

  • Projector (Epson 695 or 725)
  • HDMI cable (& possibly an adapter)
  • Laptop/computer, Projector Pens, and Remote

Connecting to a Projector

HDMI

  • Plug in HDMI cable coming from the projector, or from the wall outlet, into your computer. If projector is on but no display is showing, press “Source Search or HDMI” on the remote. See video of what a typical teaching wall looks like below, for an example.
    • HDMI cable -->

      • Step 1: Turn on the projector.
      • Step 2: Plug in HDMI cable into computer and/or adapter.
      • Step 3: If display is not showing up, press “Source Search or HDMI” on remote

iProjection

  • Turn on the projector and start up iProjection app. Connect to the projector. If no display is showing, press “Source Search or LAN” on the remote. See video link for a walkthrough. If you do not have iProjection on your computer, please reach out to your building SPOC.

  • Step 1: Turn on the projector.
  • Step 2: On your computer, open iProjection app.
  • Step 3: If projector is registered, double click on registered projector and skip to step 5. Otherwise, press “LAN” button on remote and take note of IP address (starts with a 10.#.8.#) displayed on the whiteboard.
  • Step 4: In iProjection, click on Manual Search on left side, then type IP address in search bar, then click “Search”.
  • Step 5: In iProjection, click box for projector to connect to.
  • Step 6: Click “Join” button.

  • Step 7: If no display is showing, press “Source Search or LAN” on the remote. 
  • Done! You should now be connected wirelessly to the projector.

How to use Projector/Whiteboard

Epson 695/725 Features

  • See videos for feature walkthrough on each model of projector.
    • First, turn on the projector. Use the remote and press the blue button.

    • Drawing on a projected image (AKA-Annotation mode)
      • Tap on the board with an epson pen. On the right side, you should see this icon . This is the annotation icon. If you see this icon , that is the interactivity mode. Click on the icon and you can switch the mode.
      • Next, click on the toolbar arrow , to see all the toolbar writing options.
      • On the toolbar, the top left button is for annotation of an image from a device, while top right is for the whiteboard function. Both modes allow you to draw on the board.

  • Tap on any icon, within the toolbar, to change the pen mode to a different color, to change the thickness of pen strokes, or to select an eraser.
  • Using Interactivity mode to control your device using the projector and pens
    • Tap on the board with an epson pen. On the right side, you should see this icon . This is the annotation icon. Tap on that icon and you should now see this icon , that is the interactivity mode. Just click on the icon and you can switch the mode to interactivity.
    • Your epson pen should now act like a mouse click (left) when touching the board.
  • Projector Control Toolbar (Found on the bottom of the screen) has some useful features as well.

  • Drawing on a projected image (AKA-Annotation mode)
    • Tap on the board with an epson pen. On the right side, you should see this icon
      you want this turned off. If needed, tap on the blue toggle switch to turn it off.
    • Next, you will notice a toolbar appear on the bottom of the screen. Tap the icons to change the color the pen will write or enable additional features such as a whiteboard mode.
    • If you want to control your computer using the projector pens, rather than annotate, using the pen tap the “PC Interactivity” toggle switch to on. (see image above).
    • If you’d like to use whiteboard mode or other features, tap the respective icon.
      . The whiteboard mode has great backgrounds to choose from and can be a nice tool to be able to quickly access, with or without a computer connected to the projector, annotation tools. If you tap the three dots, there is a timer that can be displayed, volume controls, and a few other useful features! Try it out.

Conclusion

You should now be able to connect to a projector using an HDMI cable and/or using iProjection app and be able to use the basic functionality of an Epson 695 or 725 projectors.
