Overview
How to process and dispose of batteries using our surplus procedures.
Tools/Equipment Needed
- Nitrile Gloves

Clear sticky tape (Scotch/Packing) or Electrical tape
- Do Not use Masking/Duct Tape
Create a Drop-off location in the Building
Work with Building Admin

Talk with your building OM and come up with a good location to collect batteries.
- Inform building staff of the chosen location and procedure
Create a Drop-Off box (non-metal) w/tape dispenser

Find a small-sized cardboard or plastic box. (non-metal)
- Label box “Dispose of Used Batteries Here. Tape the +positive end”

Make sure a scotch tape dispenser is available
- If possible, please put an example in the box with the positive end taped
- Do NOT use Masking or Duct tape (NO fabric style tapes)
Once the Box is full, put in a ticket for Surplus Pickup

Put taped batteries into a plastic ziplock bag (tape them if needed). Please wear nitrile gloves.
- Wear appropriate PPE: gloves and eye protection. (Be careful please)
- Follow surplus procedures and create a surplus pickup ticket

Conclusion
You should now be able to recycle batteries at the building level and process them for surplus pickup.
