Overview

This article outlines how to verify the Synergy Grade Book setup, including Categories, Weights, and Rounding, to ensure accurate Grade Book Passback with Canvas.

Middle School (CMS, LP, and Franklin 6-8)

To ensure consistency and improve the Canvas to Synergy sync process for Middle Schools, Synergy Grade Book Categories, Weights, and Rounding settings will be standardized and locked at the district level.

With these settings, no additional setup in Synergy is required via the Setup Stepper (as in years past).

Follow this guide to ensure your Canvas Course(s) are set up: Canvas: Start of Term Course Setup.

Standards

  • Categories* and Weights:
    • Formative CSD, 25%
    • Summative CSD, 75%
    • Employability Skills CSD, 0%
  • Rounding: Set to 2 decimal places (to match Canvas).

*For examples of categories that fit each of the default classifications, refer to the provided article. For instance, if you're accustomed to using "Self-Assessment," simply select "Formative CSD" as the category for that assignment in Canvas.

Verification

  • Categories and Weights
    • Where: TeacherVUE > Grade Book  > Grade Book Setup > Assignment Weighting
      • ▶️
    • What: Formative CSD 25%, Summative CSD 75%, and Employability Skills CSD 0%
  • Rounding
    • Where: TeacherVUE > Grade Book > Grade Book Setup > Grade Book Settings
      • ▶️
    • What: Class Rounding is ON, 2 Decimal Places
  • Setup Stepper
    • Where: TeacherVUE > Grade Book > Gradebook Setup
    • What: Do not use the Setup Stepper

High School

For High Schools, the default settings will be applied (see below), but teachers will have the ability to modify these using the Setup Stepper.

If high school teachers choose to modify these settings, they must ensure that their Canvas Course settings for Categories and Weights also match to facilitate accurate grade passback.

Standards

  • Categories and Weights:
    • Formative CSD, 80%
    • Summative CSD, 20%
    • Employability Skills CSD, 0%
  • Rounding: Set to 2 decimal places (to match Canvas).

Synergy and Canvas Setup

See the following article for a walkthrough on setting up your Synergy Grade Book (Synergy: Grade Book Setup Stepper).

See the following article for a walkthrough on aligning Canvas and Synergy Grade Books (Canvas: Start of Term Course Setup).

Conclusion

Using the steps above, you can verify that your Synergy Grade Book is set up with the default District Categories, Weights, and Rounding to ensure accurate Grade Book Passback with Canvas.
