iProjection: What is it? How to use.
Product: iProjection
Audience: Staff and SPOCs
Overview
This documentation will go over the software iProjection's basic functionality and how to implement it on a particular device for a staff member.
Tools/Equipment Needed
- MacBook, iPad, Windows Laptop
- Networked Projector
What is iProjection?
Watch Demo Video
- Here is a 3-minute video going through the basics of using iProjection.
What can it do?
-
iProjection will allow a wireless connection from a device to a networked projector for screen mirroring and audio.
- It must be programmed by IT but otherwise, all forms of visual/audio feeds will work, such as slides, viewing webpages, music, etc.
What can't it do?
-
Video streaming using TCP will be a challenging experience when using iProjection (ex: YouTube).
- The data stream is separated between audio/video and processed individually with this software. The audio will hit a moment before the visuals, so the experience will be out of sync.
- If watching videos is needed, it is recommended to use an AppleTV/AirTame if available, or a direct HDMI connection for the best experience.
How to Setup iProjection (SPOCs)
Network the Projector
-
The projector needs to be directly connected to the network via ethernet cable for iProjection to work. It’s important to make sure when you’re activating the port that it is configured for VLAN 8, not VLAN 16!
- Verify the projector has an ethernet cable patched to the classroom wall port.
-
Then, please follow these instructions for Enabling/Disabling a Wall Port
- Patch cables for projectors should always be ORANGE (at the MDF/IDF)
- VLAN 8 ← Let Network team know this when activating! It’s important!
- DO NOT change network settings on the projector itself. It’s ok to “reset network” settings if you’re troubleshooting but do not enable anything. Projectors can create their own AP and we don’t want that to happen in our environment.
Install iProjection and Configure
-
iProjection should be available for installation via Self-Service and Company Portal. Otherwise the software can be found here- https://epson.com/support/wireless-projector-support
-
Install the iProjection software.
-
MacOS note: During the installation process on a MacBook, the program will ask for permissions to access a variety of systems. DO NOT SKIP AHEAD! Follow the instructions and enable permissions as requested! Failure to do so will result in having to start over from the beginning. Some permissions may not trigger until during the configuration process (after software installation). Be on the lookout!
-
Configuring: Once installed, open iProjection software.
- Select “Advanced Connection Mode” and click the checkbox.
- Make sure the projector is turned on! Now, select “Manual search” on the left panel, and enter IP address of projector and click “Search” (see image)
- You should now see the projector, click the check box.
- After clicking on the checkbox, the Register button should be accessible.
- Now, click Register and save. This will allow the staff member to quickly connect with the projector without having to look up the IP address. The registered connection will now appear on the left side. (It can be renamed if desired)
- Lastly, show the staff member how to connect. Close the app, re-open it, double-click on the saved profile, click the check box under “Status”, and click the “Join” button at the bottom right of the menu. Done! (you may need to press “Source Search” on the projector remote if you aren’t already displaying the LAN source”.) The device should now be displayed on the projector screen wirelessly.
- MacOS note: Permissions may be triggered during this process(only the first time it is used). Please follow the instructions. If you skip them, this program may not have full functionality. (Specifically, Privacy&Security: Accessibility, Screen Recording & System Audio may need to be given access)
-
Install the iProjection software.
Conclusion
Staff should be able to decide if they want to use iProjection after watching the video. SPOCs should be able to setup the network and install the software and program it so staff can easily use it.
