Lightspeed 975 Flexmike Pairing/Unpairing
Table of Contents
Product: Lightspeed 975 Instructional Audio System with Flexmikes
Audience: SPOCs and staff in classrooms with 975 units installed
Overview
Most Lightspeed units will be installed with their Flexmikes already paired. However, there are a few situations where manual pairing or unpairing will need to be performed. When replacing a Flexmike, the new unit will need to be paired with the existing 975 audio system. If a Flexmike needs to be moved from one room to another while the 975 systems stay stationary, the transferred Flexmikes will need to be manually paired with the 975 unit in the new room (there's no need to unpair the mics before moving them, the pairing process will override their previous connections).
Unpairing Flexmikes will only need to occur if a mic is intentionally stolen and used to disrupt the audio in a classroom. Due to the impressive wireless range on these devices, a Flexmike will stay connected to its paired classroom even when used several rooms over! In these cases, the 975 unit will need to undergo the forced unpairing process to prevent further disruption until the Flexmike is returned.
Tools/Equipment Needed
975 audio system
1 or 2 Flexmikes
Microphone cradle charger
Pairing Flexmikes
Ensure Flexmikes are charged but powered off.
Aim the IR transmitter on the Flexmike toward the IR receiver on the 975 unit. The pairing process will need a direct line-of-sight connection, so be sure there aren't any obstructions between the two IR sensors. Red arrows below indicate where these sensors are located on both devices:
Once aimed correctly, hold the power button down on the Flexmike and continue pressing until the unit displays white/yellow lights and then begins a white blinking pattern, alternating between the front two indicator lights. Red arrows below illustrate where these 2 lights are located:
Once this blinking starts, release the power button and continue aiming the Flexmike in the same direction. After 10-30 seconds, the two lights on the Flexmike will stop blinking and one of the two will become solid white. This indicates that the pairing was successful (the left or right position of the solid light delineates the Flexmike as unit one or two). After another 5-10 seconds, the power button on top of the unit will also turn solid white and the Flexmike will be ready for regular usage. To pair a second mic, repeat this process with the secondary device. When pairing the second device, leave the first device on and do not put it in the charging cradle.
Unpairing Flexmikes
Please read through all instructions carefully before attempting. These steps must be performed in rapid succession otherwise unpairing will fail. This process will force the 975 system to unpair from all Flexmikes currently connected.
- Unplug the 975 unit from power and wait 10 seconds.
- Hold down the button labeled "Audio Input" and reconnect power.
- While still holding the same button, monitor the "Status" light on the front of the system:
- This light will flicker blue and then turn off. After 2 seconds it will come back on.
- This light will then flicker again- let go of the "Audio Input" button as soon as this light comes on again.
- This light will turn white
- As soon as the "Status" light turns white, press the "Audio Input" button one more time. This light will then flash after 1 second.
- Disconnect the 975 unit from power and wait 10 seconds.
- Reconnect unit to power and allow time for system to boot up.
- If there is a Flexmike available that was previously paired to this 975 unit, confirm that it is no longer connected:
- The Flexmike should be missing both side indicator lights on the front of the device.
- Turn the Flexmike off and then power the device back on to confirm it doesn't automatically reconnect to the 975 unit.
- If the mic does not connect, unpairing has been successful.
- Re-pair any Flexmikes as needed to re-establish a wireless connection to the classroom speakers.
